I had the opportunity to speak to Austin LBJ 2020 CB Andrew Mukuba (5'11, 181) for the first time at the Next Level Athlete Texas Top 100 Camp at Southlake Carroll, and since then, he has been setting the 512 on fire.
Mukuba has pulled in 15 new scholarship offers and holds more than 20 offers to his credit.
Schools like SMU, TCU, Texas, Texas Tech, UTSA, Alabama, Auburn, Arizona, Arizona State, LSU, Nebraska, Notre Dame, Ole Miss and Oklahoma have all stepped up.
At the NLA event, Mukuba shined in various drills and was put through a workout alongside some of the best talents in the state.
It was a hectic weekend for Mukuba as he also took unofficial visits to Oklahoma State and Oklahoma.
When discussing his tour of the Bedlam rivals, Mukuba made sure to highlight his stop in Norman.
"OU was amazing," Mukuba said. "I feel like the coaches really like me a lot, and when I saw the place (Norman), I really liked it."
Along with the attention that he has received from north of the Red River, Mukuba has taken an unofficial visit to see the University of Texas and received an offer from the in-state Longhorns.
"Texas was really cool," Mukuba said a few weeks later at the Pylon 7v7 in Fort Worth. "The coaches, the energy, and everything were great. I got a lot of love, and the place was just amazing. Coach Herman and Coach Ash are both amazing," Mukuba said.
Along with his offers from the two Red River Rivalry programs, Mukuba also seems to have a lot of respect for offers from Arizona, Missouri, and TCU.
"Arizona is up there (on my list), just because it was my first offer," Mukuba expressed.
Mukuba projects as a defensive back at the next level, he has played both ways for Austin LBJ Jaguars. On defense, he is a physical player who takes a lot of pride in playing a physical brand of football, and he enjoys the aggressive nature of down-hill tackling.
Mukuba is a two-sport athlete that competes in track and field (shirt-distance runs, long jump, triple jump) events. He was named the District 12-5A Division I Offensive Newcomer of the Year and was a unanimous first-team all-district selection on defense at safety in 2019.
This offseason, Mukuba wants to continue to improve his football IQ, more explicitly reading and reacting to plays when on defense.
