Texas Tech wide receiver transfer McLane Mannix will be immediately eligible after transferring from Nevada in January. He will enter the 2019 season as a junior.
Mannix proved to be one of the top receivers in the Mountain West as soon as he stepped on campus with the Wolf Pack. The Midland product was named a freshman All-American after catching 57 passes for 778 yards and six touchdowns in 2017. He followed it up with 50 catches for 875 yards and seven touchdowns in 2018.
After returning to West Texas, Mannix immediately steps into a featured role in the wide receiver room at Texas Tech. Top receivers Antoine Wesley and JaDeion High both left the program, so Mannix can step in next to T.J. Vasher and Seth Collins.
Before enrolling at Nevada, Mannix’s only other FBS offers were from Air Force, Army and Vanderbilt. He chose Nevada and coach Jay Norvell, a former Texas wide receivers coach, for the chance to play right away.
Mannix will make his Texas Tech debut on Aug. 31 against Montana State at Jones AT&T Stadium.
