Mason DE Slone Stultz (6'0, 215) won the Defensive MVP Award after a dominating first-half performance. Stultz finished with 8 tackles, 3.5 TFL, 1.5 sacks, a forced fumble, a blocked extra point, and a QB pressure that forced an interception in Mason's 44-6 win.
"It means everything," Slone said of the win. "Play every play like it’s your last because you never know when it’s going to be your last. We wanted to lay it all on the line for the title."
The Mason defense held New Deal to 172 yards of total offense in the win. The defensive line controlled the point of attack.
"No. 7 is a good player but all we had to do was tackle (well) and that’s what we did," Stultz said. "We had all 11 (players) getting to the ball, and that’s how we came away with that victory."
Stultz is starting to emerge on the recruiting radar.
"I’ve had some interest from Hardin-Simmons," Stultz said. "There are a few others who send me some emails here and there. I’d like to hear from schools like Texas Tech, Texas A&M, or even ASU. Any D1s or D2s would be good."
Why should colleges be targeting Stultz?
"My strength and I am pretty quick at D-end," Stultz informed. "I play with good pad leverage."
