TCU Horned Frogs to face off against Cal in Cheez-It Bowl on Dec. 26

The Horned Frogs will try to beat a Pac-12 opponent for the third time in four seasons.

TCU football will face off against Cal in the Cheez-It Bowl. The game will take place at 8 p.m. CT on Dec. 26 at Chase Field in Phoenix, and be broadcast live on ESPN.

It took close to a miracle for the Horned Frogs to make a bowl game. With a 4-6 record, TCU lost its first two quarterbacks. However, senior practice squad quarterback Grayson Muehlstein led the Horned Frogs to upset victories over Baylor and Oklahoma State to close the year. The bowl game is TCU’s 13th in the last 14 seasons.

Cal finished the season with a 7-5 record in the second season under head coach Justin Wilcox. The Golden Bears have reinvented themselves as a hard-nosed defensive squad under head coach Justin Wilcox. Despite playing in the high-flying Pac-12, Cal ranks No. 16 in the nation in total defense and No. 25 in scoring defense.

TCU and Cal have never met in program history. However, the Horned Frogs beat Pac-12 opponents Oregon and Stanford in their last three bowl games.
