TCU wide receiver Jalen Reagor caught a six-yard touchdown pass with just 69 seconds remaining in the first half against Oklahoma State on Saturday. With the catch, Reagor’s name jumped into the program record books.
Reagor became the first player to ever catch a touchdown in seven straight games at TCU. He also became just the fourth receiver in program history to post a 1,000-yard season. It was a huge day for TCU, as the Horned Frogs beat Oklahoma State 31-24 to shockingly earn bowl eligibility.
“It was one of my goals at the beginning of the year to get 1,000 yards,” Reagor said. “To get it in a game like this means the world.”
When digging into the numbers, Reagor’s feat becomes even more impressive.
The Waxahachie true sophomore has played for three starting quarterbacks during his second season in Funkytown. One of the starters was former walk-on Michael Collins. The other was longtime practice squad quarterback Grayson Muehlstein, who had never played meaningful snaps before the last two weeks. Even still, Reagor posted 91 and 86 receiving yards the past two weeks to make up nearly 60 percent of TCU’s passing offense.
The scoring numbers are even wackier. Over the seven-game stretch, TCU has scored just 15 total offensive touchdowns. Reagor is responsible for nine of them. The Horned Frogs are averaging just 19.7 points per game over the stretch, but Reagor’s numbers have stayed firm.
“That dude is a baller,” TCU safety Niko Small said. “I don’t know how else to explain it. Some things you just can’t teach, and he has them: speed, agility, vision and playmaking abilities. He has a switch and when he wants to turn it on, he turns it on.”
Against Baylor and Oklahoma State, Reagor even go involved in the run game. Reagor rushed for an 83-yard touchdown in the third quarter against Oklahoma State. He also added what ended up being a game-winning 37-yard touchdown run on a sweep against Baylor.
With the regular season complete, Reagor sits at No. 2 in TCU history with 1,061 single-season receiving yards, trailing only Josh Doctson’s 1,327 yards in 2015. Keep in mind, Reagor still has a game remaining. Reagor is also tied for No. 3 with 17 career receiving touchdowns with Mike Renfro and Cory Rodgers.
Reagor probably won’t receive All-America consideration. With other high-profile receivers like Tylan Wallace, Antoine Wesley and Hakeem Butler in the Big 12, he might even get left off the All-Big 12 First Team.
Regardless, Reagor is putting forth one of the best receiving seasons in TCU history.
