DALLAS (June 7, 2017) – Every summer, football fans across the Lone Star State eagerly await their copy of Dave Campbell’s Texas Football magazine. In 2017, “the bible of Texas football” boasts its most colorful edition yet — with an extra dash of burnt orange.
“Every year, our job is to put one of the most compelling stories in Texas on the cover of the magazine,” said Greg Tepper, Dave Campbell’s Texas Football managing editor. “This year, I don’t think there’s any doubt that Tom Herman is the state’s most compelling figure — a cerebral, intense figure tasked with a clear goal: bring the Longhorns back to their former glory. In my view, it’s the story of the 2017 season in Texas.”
For the second consecutive year, the magazine will feature a secondary “gatefold” cover, and this one features Texas high school football royalty — Corpus Christi Calallen coach Phil Danaher, the state’s winningest coach, is declared “THE KING” by DCTF.
“What can be said about Coach Danaher that hasn’t already been said?” Tepper said. “With 432 wins and counting, he’s etched himself in Texas high school football lore. If that’s not worthy of being on the cover of Dave Campbell’s Texas Football, I don’t know what is.”
For the first time ever, all 400 pages of Dave Campbell’s Texas Football — the world’s largest football preview magazine — will be printed in color. The iconic magazine has come a long way from its humble beginnings, entirely in black-and-white, in 1960.
“Over the years, based on tradition and costs, we printed our high school section in black and white,” said Adam Hochfelder, president of Sports In Action — Texas Football’s parent company. “We have wanted to feature the depth and greatness of Texas high school football in glorious color for a long time. And now, we finally did it.”
The annual magazine covers football in Texas — from high school to recruiting to college to the pros — as no other publication can. Inside the 400- page magazine, readers will find:
