Multiple sources are indicating that Cy-Fair ISD is expected to name Lubbock Estacado head coach Will Blaylock as the next head football coach at Cypress Ranch High School.

Blaylock will replace Sean McAuliffe, who departed in early April after being named the head coach at New Braunfels Canyon High School.

Blaylock has spent the last two seasons leading the Matadors to a 17-8 overall record, including an outstanding 10-3 mark in 2023 as they advanced to the Class 4A-Division Regional Semifinals.

Blaylock was named Coach of the Year in 2023 by the Texas Tech chapter of the National Football Foundation and was also named a 40 Under 40 Coach in the 2022 edition of Dave Campbell’s Texas Football.

The new Cy Ranch head coach does have connections to the Houston area as before coming to Estacado Blaylock spent three seasons as the offensive coordinator at Fort Bend Hightower. He’s also been an assistant in the Houston area with stops at Tomball, Crosby and Spring Dekaney. In addition to those stops as an assistant coach, Blaylock has been an assistant at Arlington Seguin, Sulphur Springs and Tyler John Tyler, which is his alma mater.

Blaylock, who played college football at Baylor, also spent two seasons as a graduate assistant at West Texas A&M, where he earned his master’s degree.

Despite the late timing of the opening, Lubbock Estacado will be an attractive job opening as the Matadors are fresh off a 10-3 season and are dropping down to 4A-Division II this realignment.
