The transfer portal continues to chip away star players from G5 programs across the state as North Texas starters Jyaire Shorter and Larry Nixon III declared on social media. Shorter, a junior wide receiver from Killeen Ellison, caught 11 touchdown passes on 23 receptions a year ago. He averaged 27.3 yards a catch. Nixon is a linebacker who finished with 105 tackles last year, second on the team behind KD Dixon.
North Texas is heading into the 2023 season with a first-year head coach in Eric Morris. The Mean Green fired Seth Littrell a year ago after reaching the C-USA championship game. They now play in the American Athletic Conference.
