UPDATE (Oct.12): Texas State quarterback Brady McBride had his waiver for immediate eligibility denied by the NCAA on Friday. 

McBride will now have to sit out the entire 2019 season, and will enter 2020 as a redshirt sophomore with three years of eligibility remaining. 

Texas State has used both Tyler Vitt and Montana/JUCO transfer Gresch Jensen this season, but both have struggled. The Bobcats as a team have seven touchdown passes to nine interceptions during a 2-4 start to the year.

McBride has impressed on scout team thus far, with some saying that he could be the top contender for the starting job in 2020. Jensen and Vitt will both be back, along with freshman Cedric Case. 

Original (Aug. 12): Former Coppell standout Brady McBride will transfer from Memphis to Texas State, the signal-caller announced on Twitter on Monday. 

McBride should have to sit out the 2019 season, and enter 2020 as a redshirt sophomore. He announced that he was leaving the program last week.

With his addition, the Bobcats are up to five scholarship quarterbacks on the roster: junior Gresch Jensen, sophomores Jaylen Gipson and Tyler Vitt, freshman Cedric Case and the redshirting McBride. Jensen, Gipson and Vitt are competing for the 2019 starting quarterback job.

McBride was a three-star quarterback prospect in the class of 2018. He picked the Tigers over Rice, Indiana and, yes, Texas State. He completed 8-of-14 passes for 88 yards in his redshirt season, and was expected to be the primary backup to junior Brady White at Memphis, one of the premiere programs in the Group of Five. 

Before Memphis, McBride was a three-year starter at Coppell and led the Cowboys to the playoffs in all three seasons. He threw for 6,516 yards and 86 touchdowns, and added 1,142 rush yards and 21 rush touchdowns at Coppell. His teams went a combined 27-10 with him as the starter. 

McBride is the son of Joe McBride, the former head coach and athletic director at Coppell.
