In a coaching saga that lasted approximately 25 days, it appears Fort Bend Austin head coach Trey Hermann will return to the sidelines for a second season after the Austin head football coaching job was posted by Fort Bend ISD on April 5.

Hermann, who led the Bulldogs to a surprising 5-5 record in his first season (Austin’s best record since 2014), apparently resigned his post on April 5, causing the district to post the opening.

Multiple news outlets in the Houston area reported Hermann’s resignation, but Hermann stated there was a clerical issue and an issue surrounding administrative duties. Multiple sources speculated Coach Hermann had indeed rescinded his resignation.

In a statement to KTRK ABC-13 in Houston, Fort Bend ISD stated, "The district conducted a thorough internal investigation, and the employee elected to resign. Because this is a personnel matter, we cannot comment further."

Dave Campbell’s Texas Football began to learn on Monday that Hermann was likely to be reinstated and that confirmation was received Tuesday evening with sources indicating Fort Bend Austin will begin spring workouts on May 1.

Hermann came to Austin in 2022 where he spent one season as the Bulldogs defensive coordinator before being named head coach on June 29. Hermann has spent time as a head coach at Houston Bellaire, Alvin Katy Taylor and Danbury.
